Company Overview
America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth was
founded after the Presidents’ Summit for
America’s Future in 1997. The unprecedented
gathering brought together Presidents Clinton,
Bush, Carter and Ford – and Nancy Reagan
representing President Reagan – along with
governors, mayors, community delegations,
leaders of business, philanthropy, education,
nonprofit and faith organizations and several
thousand concerned citizens from every sector to
make a commitment to ensure a brighter future
for America’s youth.
The mission of the America’s Promise
organization and the larger Alliance for Youth
it serves is to mobilize people from every
sector of American life to build the character
and competence of our nation’s youth by
fulfilling Five Promises:
1. Ongoing relationships with caring
adults- parents, mentors, tutors, or coaches;
2. Safe places with structured activities
during non-school hours;
3. Healthy start and future;
4. Marketable skills through effective
education;
5. Opportunities to give back through
community service.
America’s Promise is a not-for-profit
organization funded by public and private grants
and contributions. The alliance consists of
national and local partners, including
corporations, foundations, youth-serving
organizations, federal and state agencies, and
communities that help fulfill the Five Promises
for every young person.
